“When Kings Were the Law” (1912)
Unlike many Pasadena homeowners, the Fenyes family
welcomed film crews onto their property. Eva
would photograph the filming and write in her diary
about mingling with the actors and directors.
“When Kings Were the Law,” filmed on the Fenyes estate,
was one of the twenty-six films that director D.W.
Griffith shot in the west San Gabriel Valley. Also
known as “The Necklace,” this 19th century
costume drama is loosely based on the affair of the
diamond necklace.
