Peek at Family History

Wednesdays, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, 2009

9:00 to 11:30 am

In celebration of the current exhibition Family Stories: Sharing a Community’s Legacy families are invited to join the Pasadena Museum of History for five new sessions in the month of July to enjoy games, crafts, and activities that can be used to explore their own family history. For children 4 through 8 years old and an accompanying adult

Tickets: Admission is Free; however reservations are required and space is limited.

Youth Volunteer Opportunities

Youth Volunteers 12 - 18 years old can earn community service hours by assisting with Peek at the Past programs.

July 1 Family Holidays from Many Cultures

Enjoy games and crafts related to cultural holidays such as Chinese New Year, Latin American Dia de Los Muertos, and Armenian Vardavar. Fill a calendar with holidays you can celebrate at home all year.

July 8 Wrapped in Family History

Explore family textiles such as quilts and Oriental Rugs; try on kimonos, serapes, silk pajamas and other clothes; and make a Family Memory Pillow to take home.

July 15 Picturing Family History

Discover how historic photos tell family history, create a cyanotype blue sun print, and make a photo album to take home. Also, meet an old time photographer and see an early camera.

July 22 Climbing Family Trees & Jumping into Family Timelines

Learn family relationships by exploring several types of family trees and making one of your own, travel through a musical timeline of popular songs, and try dancing with time steps such as tap and an Irish jig.

July 29 Tastes of Family History

Explore world cuisine by cooking baklava, tasting exotic fruits, and running a tamale-making relay. Decorate recipe cards to take home and fill with your family’s specialties.
